"Follow Me To Mexico" - 1991 VW Golf Country

March 06, 2017 vw, golf, syncro

We're not familiar with the "Baja 4000" but it seems to be a charity race that had its inaugural running back in January. This 1991 Golf Country apparently served duty as the official pace car and its engine bay is dirty enough to make us believe that it saw some action in the sand.

More From the Machine: Syncro Panel Van

We've had some hits and misses with our continued mash up of machine learning and motors, and we can't imagine how many CPU cycles we have burned. That said, we feel like we're really starting to make progress when we see this at the top of our "recommended" queue. A baby-blue Syncro panel van? You really get us TensorFlow.

Corrado Powered Caddy: 1980 VW Rabbit Pickup

February 24, 2017 vw, pickup, supercharged

This 1980 VW Rabbit Pickup has received an interesting Frankenstein treatment with a supercharged G60 motor from a Corrado along with some GTI interior and exterior bits. Cover it all with military green PPG paint and color us intrigued.

High Miles & Low Price: 2004 VW R32

February 08, 2017 vw, r32, gti

We remember when the R32 came out in Europe and eventually made its way to the US a few years later. With AWD, and the VR6 it was our dream VW made real. At the time the near $30,000 sticker price was a bit of a deal breaker for us, not to mention the fact that the allotment of 5,000 vehicles sold out extremely quickly. 13 years and 400,000 miles later, this R32 has has lost about 80% of it's retail price but our interest remains at 110%.

Late Model Crew Cab: 1986 VW Bus

January 29, 2017 vw, bus, truck

We've always liked these dual cab VW buses and this Brazilian-built truck has our attention. It has some of the telltale signs of a quick flip, but we're also intrigued by the air-cooled twin-carb setup along with factory disc brakes offered by this final year dual cab.

European Built Caddy: 1988 VW Rabbit Truck

Even though we have a soft spot for the Rabbit pickups that were made right up the road at VW's Westmoreland plant, they stopped building (and selling) them here in 1984. Production carried on elsewhere for a long time and this 1988 model gives us a little glimpse of that continuation.

Triple Brown: 1987 VW Vanagon Syncro

October 05, 2016 vw, vanagon, syncro

This 1987 Syncro Vanagon is finished in "Merian Brown" and looks good as a tin top instead of the normal pop tops that we often see sporting this color. It looks like a repaint based on the shine level + bubbling seams, but things look solid underneath and clean inside. This could be a solid Syncro for a decent price.

Westy + Weekender: 2003 EuroVan with matching Trailer

This low mileage 2003 Eurovan is enticing enough with the best-of-both-worlds Weekender package that allows for comfortable camping without sacrificing daily van functionality. Adding what's billed as a 2016 pop top camper that has been retrofitted from another Eurovan makes for a great combo that can tackle anything from soccer practice to months long road trips.

Putting the W in VW: 2003 Volkswagen Passat W8

September 14, 2016 vw, w8, 6-speed

This W8 Passat would have been about the most ridiculous car in VW showrooms back in 2003 since it would be another year or so before the Phaeton came in with its big W12. With AWD, a 6-speed, and the W8 motor, the only other thing we could ask for would be the wagon body. We'll take what we can get though.

4Motion Diesel Import: 2000 Volkswagen Golf

July 28, 2016 vw, AWD, golf

At first we thought that someone just decided to throw a 4Motion badge on an old Mk4 Golf, but upon further inspection this one looks like the real deal with all the right Euro bits. It has been legally imported to Canada and we're not sure what it would take to get it plates in the states, but we like the idea of this AWD diesel hatch as a base for all kinds of fun.

Time Capsule 'Rocco: 1980 VW Scirocco

June 09, 2016 vw, scirocco

The Other 16V VW: 1988 Volkswagen Jetta GLI

May 27, 2016 vw, GLI

The GTI gets most of the love when it comes to 80's 16 valvers (or at least most of our love). The GLI has long been overshadowed by its cheaper, brasher, little brother but after 30 years, this GLI looks shows that maybe the competition between siblings is closer than we thought.

14K Nice? 1984 Volkswagen GTI

We can't resist an original red GTI with snowflake wheels, even one with eye watering price. Rebuilds and upgrades notwithstanding the $13,995 asking price is astronomical for a car with 215k miles on it. That said, we keep clicking through the photos and grinning so maybe the seller is onto something.

Basic Baja Starter: 1970 VW Beetle

May 03, 2016 vw, beetle, baja

This 1970 Volkswagen Beetle has received a basic baja conversion, and looks like it could be a good base to build on from. Except for some rough sheet metal work in the engine compartment things look neat. An AZ street registration gives us hope we could get this thing plated in PA, but the logistics of doing so with a stinger exhaust may be tricky.

Cost as Much as 2 Beetles: 1966 Karmann Ghia Type 34

April 15, 2016 vw, ghia, type 34

Though this one is a bit outside of the price ranges we normally focus on here at Moto Roster, the Karmann Ghia Type 34 is one of our favorite designs ever. So, when one this nice comes up for sale, we're flexible on our normal limits. We've been on the hunt for a 912 and it's funny that for the same $35,000 you would spend on a nice-condition 912, you could get a different 1600cc-powered German that makes 912's look as common as Camry's.

Short and Sweet: All Original 1983 VW Rabbit GTI

April 09, 2016 vw, gti, rabbit

Like the GTI itself, this one is pretty self explanatory. A 1983 GTI that has been in the same family for the last 30 years and looks to be remarkably original. After 150k miles this GTI still has original paint, a clean interior, and 14 inch snowflake wheels look better than our 2013 "Detroit's" in every way.

Too Nice to Drive? 1990 VW Corrado G60

We featured a Corrado not too long ago, but we would be remiss not to share this example which we'd guess is one of the lowest mileage examples in existence. The dealer seems to have a cache of Corrado’s but this one stands out with it’s 500-miles-per-year duty cycle.

High School Hot Rod: 1993 Volkswagen Corrado

This low mileage 1993 Volkswagen Corrado would have been the pinnacle of our high school VW aspirations. The VR6 paired with the Corrado's funky styling and 90's preferred green on tan color scheme are more than enough for us to ignore the horrible automatic seatbelts.

Paint can wait: 1965 VW Notchback

We like this seller's priorities: a built engine, brakes, suspension, and new pans. Maybe splurge a little on some upholstery and the cabin to round out the driving experience, and you're good. Anyone who puts this much time and money into a car and doesn't touch the paint is welcome at Moto Roster HQ anytime, and we hope they roll up in something like this 1965 VW Type 3 Notchback.

50 Horsepower & 22K miles: 1979 Volkswagen Rabbit

Stored from 1983 until 2015, when it was purchased at an auction in Minnesota, this diesel 1979 Volkswagen Rabbit has since put on another 8,000 miles. These Western PA-bred rabbits were never the fastest, but this might be the lowest mileage example still in the wild.

German Soldier: 1989 VW Doka Diesel

March 02, 2016 vw, doka

We've seen quite a few workman spec Transporters and Doka's with green paint that claim German military heritage. This one has a bit more than paint to back up it's service, so if you're in the market for an ex-military diesel communications truck, this is probably the only game in town.

Full disclosure, we grew up in a Kalahari Beige 1987 Quantum wagon so we may be looking at this through rose colored glasses. That car began our love of German wagons, and we don't see how things could be anything but improved with the addition of AWD and a 5-speed.
