This 1995 Land Rover Discovery is on offer by Zombie Motors in Georgia who swapped a 200Tdi motor in place of the 3.5 liter V8. The truck itself is scruffy, but claimed to be rust free. If that's the case, this 5 speed, diesel Discovery for less than $10,000 could be worth a look.
We generally see 300Tdi motors (or something domestic) being called in as replacements for the Buick-derived V8. If you're putting out the time and money for labor anyway, it's probably worth it to step up to the 300Tdi. It looks like the folks at Zombie Motors had an extra 200Tdi laying around, and the time and skill to do the swap so that's how the 4 cylinder ended up in this Disco.
This is a base model Discovery with cloth seats, no sunroofs, and no jungle seats in the back which is rather rare in the US. It's unclear whether the 5-speed is original to the truck or was swapped in with the motor. The seller claims that the combo is "in perfect condition, ready to be daily driven."
Overall appearance is scruffy and it looks like this truck has seen its time offroad. Things look generally dirty inside and out but we're guessing that's due to a builder who prioritizes performance and capability over looks which we're ok with. Whoever buys this rig isn't buying it to impress the valet. If things really are rust free as the seller claims than all of this can be taken care of with a few hours of scrubbing.
Some wiring is visible in the passenger footwell that pushes the envelope in terms of "function trumping form" but hopefully that's just an oversight. The roof rack and Hella lights combined with Terrafirma springs give an aggressive but not ridiculous look.
The seller says that the tires are too big for the current setup and can rub which is surprising as they don't look terribly oversized. The tires look to be pretty aggressive Federal's so it's not much of a shame to swap those out for properly sized BFG's.
Checking out Zombie's site, it looks like they had this rig sitting around and they were trying to sell it as a built-to-spec truck where the buyer could pick his motor, etc. They didn't get any bites on that approach so they went ahead and swapped in the diesel to try to find a buyer. For $9,500 things are a little rough around the edges but it's hard to argue with a diesel Discovery.
