If you liked yesterday's Dodge Power Wagon, and are in the market for something equally difficult to drive but offering more secure cargo storage, we've got just the thing for you. This 1956 Chevy Panel Truck offers a similarly agricultural driving experience with a bit more practicality and panache.
First things first, we don't have anything against "The Natural Bridge of Virginia" but we're happy to hear that the lettering is removable and not painted on. The paint on this truck is in a strange middle ground where it needs a bit more wear on it to really do this Chevy justice.
The 6700 badging on this one is a bit confusing as that is the designation for a school bus chassis. It looks to us to be the 135" wheelbase model meaning that it was a utility chassis rated for up to 2700 pounds of payload. This one has the smaller 235ci 6 cylinder, not the optional V8 though so we wouldn't plan on really testing those capacities. The engine and engine bay look extremely presentable save for some crimped coolant lines and a bit of questionable wiring to be tidied up.
Overall, this truck presents as a nicely maintained driver that has carries "originality" in that no major alterations have been made. New suspension and brake components have been fitted in the last 3 years and undercarriage shots look tidy enough.
The wood in the cargo area is said to be original which is hard to believe, but the only shots of it are from the underside. Floorboards up front do look to be in excellent condition, and they look like they have been replaced or reinforced and painted at some point. We like the ambulance doors on this model over the liftgates seen on some other "Task Force" panel trucks.
The 2 door / cargo truck layout does limit modern day functionality but we think this old girl could still have some work left in her. A shop truck for a furniture maker, or maybe a delivery truck for an extremely expensive CSA? We know our carrots would taste even better if they arrived in this truck.
