A V8 Audi wagon isn't that rare of a beast. Even with a manual, there's no shortage of 2000's era S4s that will tick all of those boxes. If you're looking for something a bit more vintage with all of those attributes though things get a little bit tougher, and you may need to get creative like this seller did.
This wagon started out its life as a pretty average A6 with an automatic transmission and the 2.8 liter 12 valve V6 -- all standard fare for a practical suburban hauler. After serving duty in Ohio for 50k miles, it moved West to California where the new owner got creative.
The build is too extensive to fully do justice here but there is a thread on the TheProjectPad.com that goes even deeper than the detailed eBay listing.
The main attraction here is the 4.2 liter V8 that has been mated to a 6 speed from a 2000 A6 2.7T. This wasn't a simple swap either -- the seller details using a NOS short block, rebuilding the heads, performing a light port and polish as well as plumbing a new oil cooler and dual radiators.
We're not familiar with the VEMS engine management but the work sounds to be thorough and reportedly yields around 300HP at the crank. The seller notes that this system is not OBD2 compatible so there may be some emissions issues in various jurisdictions.
To match the increased horsepower, 312mm rotors were installed up front and matched to Boxster brakes. S6 brakes in the rear have less than 100 miles on them and the lines were replaced in 2013.
Factory S4 Fuchs 5 spokes wheels were powdercoated and look good but will need new tires.
The suspension is a bit tired and the seller notes this would be a good place to start for a new owner looking to continue performance upgrades. Some coilovers along with included urethane bushings and a sway bar would go along way.
There's too much to write up here including a ton of spares as well as a bit of "history" with a hit and run and a leaky cam seal. Even with those issues, the current bidding with less than 2 days left is way under what the seller has in this car even if you assume a $0 labor rate.
