With 200,000 miles on it, this 1990 Audi 200 Avant has its share of bumps and bruises but even 25 years later its design is still striking. We remember when we first saw the complicated spoiler-split rear glass with the gigantic "quattro" defroster lines and even now we wouldn't mind seeing it our own garage.
The 1990 model falls one year short of receiving the final year 20V motor, but still it's a turbocharged 5 cylinder attached to an AWD wagon so we're not complaining. Details are scant other than it "... fires right up and runs like it should" and blurry photos don't help much either. Cold AC is mentioned, so that’s something.
Outside, the pearl white paint looks to have worn as to be expected after 25 years and the bumpers and trim are a bit worse for the wear. Original basket weave wheels still look great and most importantly we don't see any rust bubbling up though that may be selective photography.
A similar story plays out inside where the interior is presentable given the miles. It's sort of amazing that Audi still uses basically the same shift knob on its manuals. This would have been the pinnacle of luxury and electrical complexity for Audi in 1990 so all of the systems would need to be gone through to see what remains operational. The doors on these are always a weak point so if there are still 5 points of egress on this wagon it’s impressive.
The market for these is all over the place so it will be interesting to see where this lands. This wagon is far from pristine, but if a PPI shows the motor, transmission, and Quattro system to be in working shape it could be a great buy. It's not too far from Moto Roster HQ and we'll be watching this auction to see if we can swoop in for a deal at the end.
