Right hand drive is normally a turn off for us, but we'll make an exception for this unique ex-postal Jeep. Any vehicle that was up to USPS duty in Alaska has to be more than tough enough for anything we'd subject it to. Combine that with the unique factory "world cab" and this Scrambler could really "deliver." Get it? We're sorry.
There are plenty of old Land Rovers out there with a similar panel wagon setup, but this Jeep make those look common. We've seen mentions of the world cab on Jeep forums for years, but we've never actually seen one in person. This example has found its way from civil service in Alaska down to Cincinnati, Ohio and we're looking for excuses to make a mini road trip West to check it out.
The Jeep has 132,000 (we assume) hard miles on it but looks to be in decent condition. Rust will need to be addressed in some rockers and floor pans but the tub, wheel wells, and frame are said to have escaped. The driver's side fender is mangled but should be to easy fix, or even easier to ignore depending on your overall goal with this Jeep.
The original 258 fires right up but the rare automatic slips a bit in second gear. The automatic helps to alleviate some of the RHD headaches so we don't mind it too much.
The real interest here is the world cab. The good looking side profile makes us wonder why we didn't see more of these on the road and we have a feeling you'd have Jeep guys stopping you at every turn. The seller claims that the cab was ordered with spray foam insulation and we'd be interested to know if that was an option from Jeep or a dealer / GSA addition. A unique looking rear heater setup appears both heavy duty and jury rigged in the tall cargo area.
We're not sure what we would do with this thing, but it doesn't stop us from wanting it. Maybe a 4-wheeling USPS enthusiast would buy it and restore it? Or an alpine-region plumber? Whatever your end game, if you buy this Scambler on eBay let us know.
