Owning a vehicle that straddles the line between monster truck and strip mining equipment is never going to be a decision driven by practicality. BUT, if you've got your heart set on upsetting the neighbors with a Unimog, this 4-door model with a plethora of hydraulic hookups is about as practical as these things get.
This 1980 Unimog has a unique doka / dual cab setup along with a 3 way hydraulic tilt bed. It looks like it has been in service at an Oklahoma-based sod company so we expect it to have seen some heavy hauling duty, but nothing too punishing.
46,600 miles are indicated on the stock OM352 motor which is without any of the higher-hp accoutrements which should help in terms of reliability. Almost 900 hours are indicated on the aftermarket Tiny Tach and we'd be interested in finding out when that was installed.
Air brakes will likely require a CDL in your jurisdiction but they're the only option in something of this magnitude. Air lockers and huge Michelin tires should provide you with all the grunt needed for hauling, towing, and plowing. 12 speeds, an overdrive, and "fast axles" will allow for near-freeway speeds if you're brave and ok with replacing tires often.
Inside the cabin is bare bones, but clean and large with room to haul 4 comfortably and 5 if you're ok with some complaints.
The underside looks clean with some minor, unspecified seepage noted and seen. With the amount of hydraulic plumbing and quick connects on this truck, we're hoping it's just that system.
A snowplow is included along with suitcase weights for the back when you're moving real amounts of frozen stuff. The 4 seater configuration makes us think this would make an interesting backcountry ski vehicle. Nearly the same capability of a snow cat with the ability to drive to the mountain too. Maybe even mount an old gondola on the bed for the full effect.
Your neighbor won't mind seeing this monstrosity in the yard when you hook up the big snow plow and start clearing out the snow out of his driveway so go ahead and bid. It's on eBay in Oklahoma with low bidding an an unmet reserve.
