We remember when these were hanging out at the dealers with unsellably-high prices and crazy (at the time) flared fenders and hood scoops. They may have been a tough sell for the Camry buying masses coming through the door, but even with 175k miles we'd love to own this homologation special.
The seller has little to say about the condition of this Celica All-Trac car other than it needs a clutch and that the pictures speak for themself which is a bit of a cop out. He is correct that this is a rare find, and it looks to be in decent original shape minus some missing badges and minor bumps and bruises. The interior is classic 90's Japanese sports car which is a strange mix of overstuffed luxury and complex digital controls. Original wheels and no visible mods are a good sign that this All-Trac escaped the effects of the "Fast and Furious" franchise.
The exterior and interior aren't really of great interest though -- the real action is the turbocharged 3S-GTE under the hood and the complex drive system that it's feeding. For a performance car, the lack of motor / undercarriage shots could be a red flag but not a deal breaker. If you're in the market for one of these cars you need to follow up every lead and this one could be promising.
We could see a clutch service being a multi thousand dollar affair, and the seller seems to imply that it's the reason that the car is being sold. Depending on the condition of the clutch, it may be difficult to ascertain the condition of the rest of the AWD system. 175K miles is high but not unheard of, we'd be interested in how this car was maintained and if it's in need of some maintenance or if it's basically at the end of its life.
