We have a 912 on the top of our roster so we're always on the lookout. This one is close to Moto Roster HQ and has a low reserve which means one thing: it's a project.
This 912 has been on eBay for a few weeks now and we were wondering what happened when it disappeared in the midst of bidding last week. It's back on eBay after a failed local buy.
We featured a $25,000 912 last week in a post about what that kind of money gets you in the world of 912s. This 1967 912 is a good deal scruffier, but is also on offer for almost 50% less with a buy it now price of $13,000.
No undercarriage shots are shown, but the seller mentions rusty rear pickups and poorly replaced floor pans so expect to spend some time cutting and welding. Originally Irish green, a repaint was done at some point in the past and it looks driver quality at best. 5 gauges and a black interior make up for it in our minds.
We're fine with a 914 engine in there now, though we have questions about the transmission. A 1967 (partially disassembled) 912 engine will be included if the reserve is met which would provide a good opportunity to get this one going as-is while you do a proper bench build of the other engine.
We think this 912 could be the perfect opportunity to get the 60's air cooled Porsche experience for someone willing to put in some sweat and have a driver, not a show car. Full disclosure, we're bidding on this one but we don't mind losing it to any MR folks.
