This Toyota Pickup is claimed to be all original and looks the part. It's fully loaded with the 20RE engine, optional 5-speed, and a long bed. 18k miles are listed and not elaborated on, which is hard to believe -- but then again it is incredibly clean.
These second generation Toyota Pickups lost their Hilux names in the US and gained some horsepower and room in the bed. In 1978 4WD wouldn't have been an option so the $5,100 selling price (including $90 for an AM radio) would represent a pretty much fully loaded truck.
For a 78, this truck is very nicely equipped: a 5 speed transmission, disc brakes up front, and a 2.2 liter SOHC engine would have been competitive in 1988, let alone ten years earlier.
The paint and chrome look great and the seller claims some bumps and bruises which are to be expected for any truck, let alone one born in June of 1978. No shots of the undercarriage are shown, but the normal water-gathering spots inside the cab are clean and neat.
The motor presents as very original and looks to have a new distributor and wires. Fresh whitewall tires are a nice touch and fit in well with the late 70's vibe. Original sales papers and manuals are included and suggest that this truck has lived its entire life in Idaho.
The interior is beyond clean with a bench seat that almost has to be reupholstered. The only thing that makes us think that it could be original is the condition of the 1-piece floor mat. An accessory that, in Land Cruiser circles, is prohibitively costly to source. We know it’s almost impossible, but the interior condition makes us think that the mileage could possible be sub 20k.
Whether this truck has 18,000, 118,000, or 218,000 miles, we're sold. It has 4 days left with very low bidding thus far and a seller who's willing to help shipping. Get your own little red truck on eBay in Caldwell, Idaho.
