This 1976 BMW 2002 looks like it could be a fun car as is, and a great driver with a little work. More than presentable as it stands, we could see driving this as much as possible without a second thought. Concentrate on building from the suspension up and just smile every time you get a new rock chip.
Though it's nowhere near the Porsche bubble that we're currently in, the value of even these run of the mill 2002's has been steadily rising. This 1976 2002 has a week to go on eBay with bidding at $8,000 and reserve met. Not too long ago, $8,000 got you a very nice stock 2002, maybe even an early one with slim bumpers. Or, perhaps a slightly shabby tii, or imported ti.
This BMW 1976 has the square tail lights and US-mandated bumpers, but presents well with a Chamonix White respray, blue interior with Recaros up front, and newer BMW wheels. A 5-speed swap is a nice addition, and we could believe the 87K on the clock but we could see it going either way. Shots of the trunk show a car that has been used as it should be, and some sheetmetal on the hood looks a bit tired. No shots of the rear seats are shown, and we suspect they may reveal the original interior color not to be blue.
If the 87K can be verified, we think there's some justification for the price even though there isn't a lot of originality left here. If not, we'll keep searching for our $5k runner that we can slowly build up. Let's see where this one ends up.
