We've always liked these dual cab VW buses and this Brazilian-built truck has our attention. It has some of the telltale signs of a quick flip, but we're also intrigued by the air-cooled twin-carb setup along with factory disc brakes offered by this final year dual cab.
Though it looks like they were going for quantity over quality with the respray, the truck presents well with white paint and slim black bumpers. Inside things look nice with fresh upholstery and what look to be new ABS door panels.
The unique 3-door setup provided easy access to to a serviceable rear seat and the fold-down bed looks nicely finished with fresh wood slats.
It's interesting to see how these trucks continued to evolve as production continued around the world. We're not familiar with the twin carb setup on the dual port 1600 but we like it. Combine that with the disc brakes all around and this truck seems like it comes "pre-upgraded."
Some of the photos of the bus appear like they may be from when it was still in Brazil, but the seller has a clear FL title so it seems like most of the paperwork headaches have been cleared.
This truck is somehow both practical and impractical at the same time. Room to carry people and cargo, some nice upgrades, and style are all on the plus side. We're sure you'd get much more utility out of a $1,500 Ford Ranger if you just need a “truck”, but you'd miss out on all of the thumbs up on road and oil stains on your driveway.
