As we look to check the next vehicle off of our roster, we keep coming back to the fact that we've never owned a Jeep. We've also never owned a Mercedes diesel of any sort even though our year end retrospective showed them appearing on MR again and again. This truck could solve both of those problems in one fell swoop.
Though the (poor) photos show a Jeep that is rough around the edges, there's a lot to like here. Putting aside the obvious motor attraction, the CJ5 is an iconic body and the Bestop top, BFG tires, and BDS lift are all high quality components that give us hope in the rest of the build.
No details are given about the motor's history but the seller claims that it was installed by Koch Enterprises and that all of the work is top notch. We're not familiar with Koch but there are a few photos of this truck on their site and things do seem well thought out.
No mention is made of the running gear or 4WD system but the seller claims to get 20 mpg out of the 5 cylinder diesel and 32 inch tires.
The seller says that the frame is in great shape and the steel body is in fair shape with a "few blisters." A steel front bumper up front looks good and a towing hitch out back could add to this truck's "practicality."
We'd immediately lose the turbo diesel badge and what looks to be a Chevy 4x4 sticker but other than that we're into it. We'd probably get a bikini top, some half doors and drive the hell out of it.
$10,000 is steep (especially considering that the build site shows it on offer for $5,900 at an unknown date) but it is a unique setup and we'd probably be into it at $6,000. It's right up the road from Moto Roster HQ so we'll see if we can resist taking a trip up north to check out this American / German mashup.
Find this 5 Cylinder Diesel Jeep on Craigslist just north of Pittsburgh, PA.
