We've seen quite a few workman spec Transporters and Doka's with green paint that claim German military heritage. This one has a bit more than paint to back up it's service, so if you're in the market for an ex-military diesel communications truck, this is probably the only game in town.
Claimed to have 44,000 miles and on offer to civilians for the first time, this Doka looks good on the inside, great in the engine bay, and fair everywhere else. The rear bench has been converted to a one-seater with the remaining room replaced with some serious looking folding desks. We'd love to know the full story of how this truck was used, but between the desk setup + box labeled "Communication Equipment" in the bed we've got some ideas.
The little 68HP diesel looks extremely clean; we'd love to think it's the result of meticulous German maintenance, but it's more likely to be the result of the cleaning guy at the dealer. Some frame shots seem to show green paint that was intentionally applied so we wonder if this was part of enlisting. Shots of the transaxle look a little shabby but not bad at all.
The treasure chest looks clean and dry, which is nice since it can sometimes be a nightmare spot.
We're fans of these trucks with their flip down tailgates and sides. As a shop truck or runabout, the diesel & RWD setup is perfect. We're not sure what all of the equipment in the bed is, but it will look cool sitting in your garage and free up room for cargo.
This 1989 VW Doka is on offer on eBay with reserve not met. It has popped up on The Samba before for $16k for some reference as to what the seller's reserve may be.
