Though we're partial to the B5 body style, it's hard to argue with the appeal of the V8, 6-speed, wagon combination found in this B6. This wagon grew up in the mountains, and is currently on offer in Missouri. We're thinking maybe it should continue its trek East to join the Moto Roster garage as a combo daily driver / rubber smoker.
With over 330 horsepower and more than 300 lb/ft of torque, Audi embraced the old maxim of "there's no replacement for displacement" in the B5 S4 by swapping the old twin turbo V6 for a 4.2 liter V8. Buyers were rewarded with 0-60 times of less than 5 seconds as well as mileage that earned a gas-guzzler tax in the US.
With 100,000 miles on it, this wagon has remained stock except for the addition of an Accusump pre-oiler. We're much more familiar with the quirks of the 1.8 turbos so we can't speak to the effectiveness or necessity of this setup but the seller claims that it's a common modification for the 4.2 V8.
As prices fall on these uber-wagons, they're becoming harder to find in unmolested condition so we're pleased to see this one looks generally unmessed around with. Dolphin gray paint looks shiny with 12 years worth of wear and tear but no major dents or dings jump out.
Inside, the ivory Recaros look extremely well kept and we wonder if they're in above-average shape, or if the lighter leather somehow hides the wear better? Either way, these are some of our favorite seats of all time.
At the end of the ad, the seller casually mentions a small oil leak and a slow filling fuel tank. We're not concerned about addressing the tank but, depending on the location, the oil leak could be a major headache. At $10,500, this isn't an inexpensive car but it could prove to be a tremendous bang for the buck if it's in good health.
