No, not "rust free" - "free rust" this diesel cruiser comes with all the corrosion you could want. It's sort of a shame that the environments that these Land Cruisers excel in are the exact conditions that eat them alive. Even though this one is far beyond anything we could rescue, a 6K Land Cruiser with a diesel motor is enticing in any condition.
This Toyota is located just outside of Edmonton, Alberta which seems like a more than fitting location for this kind of vehicle. It has accumulated a bit over 80,000 miles, but based on the condition of the body and undercarriage, it looks like every one of those miles was hard earned.
The seller posted a "cold start" video and the 3 liter B motor sounds like it idles and revs as well as they ever do.
The rust is the star of the show here. All of the normal trouble spots are present along with a few new ones. Lots of field repairs have been performed on this cruiser and our uneducated guess is that you'd be better off sourcing a whole new aluminum tub and scrapping the current body.
The reason we recommend that, is that we think you're going to need to pull the body and do some extensive work on the frame to get this thing to be even reasonably roadworthy. Frame mounts look to have become unmounted in a few places and scaling is present everywhere.
The real question will be whether or not the frame can be salvaged. If it can, for a 6k purchase price there could still be some potential to put 15k into this truck and not be terribly underwater.
Ignoring the obvious issues, there are some interesting elements here that point to a truck that has and continues to serve its purpose.. A gigantic winch up front, OME shocks, and a heavy-duty homemade roof rack show a truck that has lived a life of usefulness.
Add to that the fact that the seller claims that this 42 "runs and drives with no noticeable issue" and that it has a newish looking muffler on it and we're thinking this cruiser needs to find a nice ranch to live on.
Some place where safety inspections and highway speeds aren't an issue would be an ideal home for this Land Cruiser to spend its retirement. At the current bidding we're thinking someone is just buying it for the motor but we'd love to see this become a farm truck that sits in a barn, gets to go crawl around through some trails every once and awhile and maybe helps to clear a tree or mend a fence.
