This 1970 BMW 2002 is was a daily driver and owned by the proprietor of a vintage import garage outside of Baltimore, Maryland. It looks like a great combination of drive-enhancing upgrades and maintenance paired with original paint and a good level of wear.
Owned and driven regularly since 2010, this 2002 has a number of nice upgrades including Weber carbs, electronic ignition, upgraded radiator, H&R springs, Bilstein shocks, and poly bushings throughout. We like the all business E30 14" steel wheels and they'll be a subtle nod to in-the-know BMW guys.
The replacement Acura seats up front are unfortunate, but based on other work that went into this car we trust the seller that they were not salvageable. Other than that, the interior looks well kept with 45 year old carpet and headliner holding up as best as can be expected.
Undercarriage shots look clean, and though they're not called out brake lines look to be new as well. Some bubbling of the paint is shown, and the bumpers have some scars but nothing that we would rush to address.
We like a lot about this 2002 and we're tempted to shift our focus from a project 912 towards a 2002. With .040" over pistons, and "some manifold porting", this 2002 could have a little extra pep. More importantly the upgraded suspension should make for a fun time regardless of HP numbers. The slim bumper / round tail light models are the ones to have and this driver could be THE one to have for us East Coasters.
