These second generation 4Runners are our favorites. We think they're a sweet spot between the pure-truck earlier models and some of the awkward designs that followed later. This top of the range model has only 50,000 miles on the clock and is claimed to be all original. Is the $15,000 buy it now price too dear for a 22 year old SUV?
The 1993 benefits from nearly all of the cosmetic updates that this series ever received including the one piece bumper and sealed beam headlights that really helped make the design jump from truck to SUV. There's still a lot of truck here though, including the somewhat wonky tailgate that requires the rear window to be lowered before the gate can be folded down.
On the mechanical side of things, this one has has the 3.0 V6 and 4WD which is our preference even though the legendary 22RE was an option. A recent timing belt service is mentioned and dealer records are alluded to, but no further specifics are provided. Undercarriage shots look clean and original with a new catalytic converter and shield jumping out as clean spots amongst the dust.
Tires are claimed to be 90% but they look to have a bit of age on them to us and would need to be replaced. It could be the photos, but the nose seems to be riding a bit high so some suspension work may be in order.
The big question here is price -- there's no shortage of these trucks in running condition for $3,500. "Running condition" being faint praise at best. This is a top of range model for the year, and more importantly is in great original condition with extremely low mileage. Reserve is not met at $10,000 with no bids, so we're hoping that's their floor. The $15,000 asking price is ambitious even given the condition -- it's just too common of a car. We’d say 10K at best and everyone could be happy.
