This low mileage 1987 Toyota Pickup was a "vacation truck" on an island home in Washington state which sounds like a pretty good life to us. After accumulating only 35,000 miles over its first 25 years, it moved to sunny LA with its current owner and picked up another 30k miles along with a good deal of service.
We love the practicality (and looks) of the long bed combined with a 5 speed and the 22R motor. The owner claims that "Every mechanic that sees this truck tries to buy it from me and I constantly find notes on it" which we believe. We'd definitely leave a MR card on this truck if we ran across it.
When the current seller bought this truck it was original down to pretty much everything except gas and oil. Tires, belts, hoses, the head gasket, the timing chain, and exhaust manifold were all replaced by the new owner 4 or 5 years ago. Since then the oil has been changed every 3,000 miles.
We'd like to know what happened to the original wheels, but the current aftermarket wheels are very much "period correct" and fitting.
This truck looks incredible with the normally worn interior looking factory new and the paint still shining. Though sporting Washington plates, the truck lives in LA and has always been a West Coast vehicle.
The seller says it has only seen snow once on a trip to Wyoming and that the undercarriage was thoroughly washed afterwards. We're not sure if that's entirely necessary, but we like that attention to detail.
Claimed to be rust free, the shots of the undercarriage seem to back that up. There are chips and dents in the paint as to be expected with a truck of this age, but nothing jumps out at us.
By way of issues, the seller mentions some cracked windshield seals, an emergency brake light that is acting up, and an incorrect Toyota tailgate decal. If that's the extent of problems, sign us up.
This truck has somehow avoided the typical abuse that is normally heaped on these Toyota's and we're curious about what it will go for. The market seems to be lifting these up, and this one should set a bar. We're thinking if you grab this under $10,000 you've got a deal.
