This 1980 VW Rabbit Pickup has received an interesting Frankenstein treatment with a supercharged G60 motor from a Corrado along with some GTI interior and exterior bits. Cover it all with military green PPG paint and color us intrigued.
Though pictures are rather limited and duplicative, the description offers some insight into what sounds like an interesting, thoughtful build as well as some questions. The supercharged G60 engine isn't a well-loved unit but it is a unique choice here. We're having some trouble orienting ourselves in the photos but it looks to be a tidy install. The seller claims that this truck "won't win any land speed records" but we're thinking that things should feel pretty fast with nearly twice the original HP in this truck
14 inch GTI snowflakes are always a good choice in our book and they look to perfectly fill the wheel arches here. We're wondering if the fit is a little “too perfect” up front to actually drive over any bumps, so that may have to be addressed for real use. We're not familiar with "Race line" and their coilover products so that may be worth investigating as well.
Similarly, we're thinking that the "rroco breaks" are a reference to Scirocco brakes (?) but we're not sure who would have supplied "11 inch" discs.
An Mk1 GTI interior is said to be installed along with Recaros from a Mk2 but curiously, no photos are shown. The 2 year old paint looks very nice in the included photos and the slim front bumper goes well with the rest of the truck.
We have lots of questions about this truck and we'd love to see it in person. If you're local to La Verne, CA, find this truck on The Samba and let us know how things look.
