The seller of this 1985 FJ60 is a Land Cruiser enthusiast and needs to thin out his herd of 4x4's a bit. This no reserve auction could be a good chance to pick up a clean, high-ish mileage FJ that has some interesting options and additions.
The included AutoCheck indicates that this rig has spent its life in the Pacific Northwest, though there is a 10 year gap in there that is not accounted for. Also included in the report is one accident as well as a few failed emissions but what 30 year old doesn't have a few spots on their record?
"Stardust Silver" paint is a nice alternative to the more common colors that we normally see and though it has 30 years worth of wear, bumps, and bruises, we don't see any of the cancerous rocker or wheel well rust that we are used to encountering. We're not sure what accident the AutoCheck is referring to, but there is a bump on the back corner and some poorly aligned gaps around the rear hatch that make us think that's the one.
A "newer" motor was installed a few years ago along with all of the assorted seals and hoses. A new clutch was also fitted along with a resurfaced flywheel all to the tune of $3,600. A Weber carb has taken the place of the stock one which is included with the sale.
An Old Man Emu lift and 31x10.5 tires look good without being ridiculous. Power steering should make those wide wheels useable without burning your triceps when parking. A steering stabilizer is an add on that we haven't personally experienced on a 60 but we at least like the idea, especially with big wheels and a bit of a floaty suspension.
The Australian Inclinometer is something of a rarity and well-regarded in Land Cruiser circles. We look at it as a totem that could signify enthusiast ownership. The ARB bumper and bar are high quality units but we would probably lose the bar if this were our driver. We'd be interested in what the actual mount for the spare tire is / how it's integrated into the trunk but it is nice to have the tire more accessible and the room underneath.
The interior is cleaner than it should be for the age and mileage, but it still has 200k miles worth of wear on it. Even so, we'd probably just have it detailed and then drive it as is. Or, at least we'd mean to get it detailed.
Overall, it will be interesting to see where the price on this truck ends up. It looks to be rust free and well cared for by its various owners over the years and we'd love for a Moto Roster member to be its next steward.
