This 1962 International Harvester Travelall is located in Colorado Springs and looks like it has the makings of a great around-town driver. With a 4 speed, four wheel drive, and a newer 392 V8 it should have more than enough power for all of your low speed / high torque travelall needs.
We're always struck by the wide swaths of glass on these proto-SUVs. This one has a cracked windshield but that's probably the easiest piece of glass to source.
The mix of surface rust, chrome, and turquoise paint is a winner in our book. We like the unique one piece wheels and we'd be curious as to this truck's past life with remnants of a spot light mount and CB antenna still hanging on.
Inside things are worn and a bit odd. Seat covers were fitted at some point though they now qualify as vintage. The dash seems to be sourced from a much newer vehicle though we can't put our fingers on its origin. Maybe it came along with the 392?
Speaking of which, the 392 V8 motor is claimed to be low mile and we assume that it was swapped in at some point, but by the looks of it not recently. We say assume because we're pretty sure you could only get the 345 V8 in the 3rd gen Travelall but any IH-head should feel free to correct us.
Again, stretching our IH knowledge, in our minds the 3rd gen was 2WD only so we're thinking that the entire drivetrain was swapped in along with the motor. Fine with us.
We prefer the ambulance doors over the flip down tailgate that this truck has but we can't complain. No mention is made as to whether the electric rear window still works but even if it did we'd probably disable the switch in order to avoid future issues.
$8,500 is just on the border of "oh man we should totally buy this" money for us and if it were closer to us we'd be checking it out with cash in pocket. It almost seems like a shame to bring this down from the mountains though. It would be the perfect rig for a small town Colorado doctor to tool around in.
