We're all over any car that can handle a non-trivial trip to Home Depot and break the rear end loose pulling out of the parking lot. This BMW has those boxes checked with its wagon body, straight 6 motor, and 5 speed transmission wrapped in a $4,000 price tag.
We had a slightly newer 325XI in our garage for a bit, and while we've always loved the styling of these E46 wagons, the AWD and automatic lead to a less than exhilarating experience. This one, with it's 5-speed sending power to only the rear wheels should provide for more than adequate smiles.
This example is in Western Pennsylvania so those 193,000 miles were probably hard earned. That said, everything looks clean enough with some scratched paint and interior stains. The $4,000 price makes us unconcerned with those kinds of details.
What does concern us is the high mileage and the limited info. The fact that the "previous owner has redone every seal on this thing and kept very good care of it and so have I" sounds nice but a PPI will provide some assurances. Beyond sale-negating big issues, we'd keep an eye out on the rear suspension which has always been a weak point but is likely on it's 2nd or 3rd replacement by this point.
The high mileage may actually be something of an asset as it shows at least one thoughtful owner. If a PPI is all clear (or clear enough), we'd get new tires on this thing and see how long the clutch holds out with us trying to keep keep the rear wheels in a constant state of motion.
