The seller of this 1988 4Runner must have been in such a hurry to get it for sale that he couldn't even slow down while taking the photos. Blurry photos don't really matter when you've got these kinds of stats: 1 owner, 112k miles, and a 22RE. He could have left the lens cap on and we don't think it would hurt the outcome of this auction.
An automatic is about the only possible downside here, but we were more disappointed that this truck doesn't have the turbocharged 22R-TE that automatic transmissions were often mated to in the US. The automatic is less of an issue on these later models anyway as they lost the solid front axle that make the earlier models attractive to offroaders.
Being the second to last year of these first generation 4Runners, the interior benefits from some refinement. It's much less utilitarian than the earlier models, and vestiges of it (shifter, HVAC, fabric) carried on for nearly 6 more years in the 2nd gen 4Runners.
Claimed never to have left CA, the original paint and frame condition seem to back it up. No specific mention is made, but the top looks like it remains well fit and doesn't show any of the typical wear that comes from removing and installing it frequently. That said, if this truck lived in LA for the last 25+ years, it would be a shame if there wasn't any open top motoring.
The only things that jump out at us as non-original are oversized chrome mirrors, a slight lift + tire bump on the chrome wagon wheels, and an alarm. Nothing that looks out of place or detracts from this 4Runner.
