We know that it might be an inflammatory statement, but we're going to go ahead and say it. E30's get all of the the love when it comes to late-80's Germans but we'd take a 4000CS over the BMW any day.
This 1987 Audi 4000CS Quattro looks clean and well cared for with 166k Pacific Northwest miles on it. The current owner has only had it for 1,000 miles which could be a red flag, but a move East is the claimed reason for selling.
Originality is the selling point for this Quattro and the other than some fading on the rear trim, it presents nicely. A superficial point, but a cloth interior that is this clean after 30 years points to careful ownership in our minds. A Quattro that works in all modes should get you anywhere you're going until ground clearance becomes an issue. The seller seems to have some familiarity with Volkswagen/Audi's of this era since he mentions all doors working as a selling point.
Recent service includes a new radiator, front struts, strut bearings, dust boots, sway bar bushings, front CV boots, control arm bushings, subframe bushings and a Sachs clutch kit. Rear struts and a leaking valve cover gasket will need to be addressed by the new owner but those are minor issues.
These Quattro models are very hard to come by, especially in this condition. It's similarly priced to the S4 Avant we featured earlier, but these are two different beasts.
Buy this 4000CS Quattro instead of an E30 on Craigslist in Seattle.
