This 1970 Volkswagen Beetle has received a basic baja conversion, and looks like it could be a good base to build on from. Except for some rough sheet metal work in the engine compartment things look neat. An AZ street registration gives us hope we could get this thing plated in PA, but the logistics of doing so with a stinger exhaust may be tricky.
This Baja Bug is more show than go at the go at the moment. There is no roll cage, and the suspension looks to be only mildly worked over but it gives enough clearance to get this Beetle places others can't reach. That said, you're not going to be showing up in any Class 11 races in this guy (yet).
The highlights for us are a claimed rust-free shell, Pertronix ignition, clean interior, and possibly the powder coated bars depending on how well they have been installed.
No specs are given on the tires, wheels, or suspension but they superficially look to be well set up with tall sidewalls in the back and the suspension in the front dialing down the rake. The street tire setup is practical, but we'd put same-size BFGs on all around and even things out with some coilovers on the corners.
The motor looks clean, if unremarkable though the mention of "chrome dress-up bits" gives us some pause.
This could be a fun car and nice long term project for the right price. As we continue to crawl under rusty 912's that are commanding 5x the price that this will likely go for, we're starting to think there are other ways to have rear-engined, air cooled fun until the P-car bubble comes back down to earth.
