This auction has popped up on eBay once before and we didn't have a chance to write it up before it disappeared. We like what we see in this German import and it will be interesting to see what it ends up selling for if it lasts longer than last time.
The seller claims that this Syncro had the royal treatment before being imported: "... fully and professionally restored in Germany, that included a complete disassembly, attending to all necessary body issues, rustproofing with all cavities treated, an extreme high quality paintwork in red metallic as well as attending to all mechanical components as well, that included a complete and thorough tune-up, engine reseal job, all new fluids, etc..."
We wonder what kind of life this truck lived that it needed such a through going-through after less than 30k miles, but from the photos at least, it's hard to argue with the results.
No shots of the engine are shown but we assume it's the standard 2.1L waterboxer (for better or worse). The cabin has no signs of the Syncro lockers that are commonly seen on the US spec vanagons, but that likely speaks to the utilitarian nature of these European work trucks. We can make out the edge of a drive shaft in one of the undercarriage shots, so we'll trust that this is indeed an AWD truck.
The interior is a bit of a mish-mash but that's not really the point. There's probably $3,000 worth of bumpers and wheels on this rig, and though diamond plate can be a red flag, the bed looks well done here. The awkwardness of the high bed height is offset by 3-side access thanks to the fold down sides. The double cabs offer a bit more in terms of non-work practicality, but we think this could make a great shop truck or even weekend Home Depot runabout.
