These FJ55 "Iron Pigs" are somewhat hard to find in the US due to a double whammy of unloved design and tendency to rust away to nothing. This one has a SBC which can sometimes be a dicey proposition, but we have some faith in anyone who has such neat labels for their underhood electrical connections.
The big selling point of this FJ55 (in addition to the no reserve auction) is the lack of rust. The seller claims that he searched for a long time before finding this CA truck and chose it for its tidiness. The paint job is 11 years old but looks good in photos which the seller credits to the rust-free metal underneath.
Under the hood, there's a SBC "crate" motor but no further details are given. We're not Chevy experts but we're sure some readers can chime in and ID the motor just from the photos. The engine is mated to a 4-speed from an FJ60 and power steering also comes along for the ride.
The conversion looks to be cleanly done with all of the terminal blocks neatly labeled - either the result of a thorough, kit or an OCD owner. The big aluminum radiator and blue-top Optima radiator are nods to a build where some money was spent / corners were not cut.
Inside things look to be a bit "Good ol' boys"-chic with rhino liner everywhere and a "custom" diamond plate and angle iron gauge cluster for engine temp, oil pressure, battery, and fuel. The only other gauge we see is a large tach so you might be on your own when it comes to speed. Donor seats up front look clean and not too out of place.
Beyond the SBC and what's visible, the seller lists: new knuckles, a new battery, good tires and brakes, and a working power window in the back which is something of an achievement itself. The rear tire carrier is another semi-pricey item that makes us feel good about the work that went into this rig.
With no reserve, no rust, and a motor that’s nicely but not too nicely done, it will be interesting to see where this lands. Bring home the bacon on eBay in Acworth, Georgia.
