This RS6 is at a local dealer that always has an interesting inventory of slightly past their prime, high-end cars. While our prospects of paying nearly $20,000 for a car what will surely prove to be somewhat needy are very low, any car with 450 HP wearing Blizzaks has our attention.
The RS6 has always been a sleeper with little more than some badging and fender flares separating it from the tons of A6's that used to roam the roads around Moto Roster HQ. This one is well optioned by an "Audi Enthusiast" owner and the black paint is a nice departure from the normal gray. The carbon fiber interior is a welcome relief from the wood accents we normally see.
We'd like to talk to the "enthusiast owner" who took the time to program Neckarsulm, Germany into the nav system as "home" since that's where the RS cars were / are generally produced.
We've always loved the seats in the RS6 which combine the support and sportiness of the S4 Recaros while still managing to look like they belong in a luxury vehicle.
No mention is made of the factory wheels, but this RS6 is currently wearing a set of 18 inch SSR wheels which are fitted with aggressive Blizzak tires so it should be ready for the winter. We're hoping that the factory 19 inch wheels come with it along with some summer rubber.
Buying a used, modern, high performance vehicle is never a safe bet and though this Audi only has 88,000 miles on it and looks generally well kept there are a few rough spots showing and it has had 3 owners already in its 13 years on the road.
That said, the CarFax is extensive and clean and shows that this car was maintained exclusively at Audi dealers around Pittsburgh. At 70,000 miles it had a new timing belt and torque converter which are big ticket items and nice to see.
Looking at this dealer's inventory it's interesting to see this car on offer next to a Toyota Tacoma with the same mileage for the same price. Though the Tacoma is nearly 10 years newer, and will undoubtedly be on the road 20 years for now, it's tough not to be swayed by call of 450 HP coming out of a twin turbo V8. The price is too high for us to roll the dice on, but we'd love to see someone with more money than sense pick this one up as a winter beater.
