This 1971 Suburban half ton is advertised as being in "nice, driveable and useable condition." We like the 3 door layout, all business interior, and the idea of the crate 350. The 3 on the tree might be a bit cumbersome at first but we like this survivor SUV.
The "crate 350" looks a bit shabby and we wonder how long ago it came out of the crate. The 4 barrel carb and dual exhaust likely give plenty of roar and the power steering will make the column shifter easier to deal with.
The 71 would have disc brakes up front and the seller says that it has "new calipers, pads, rotors, and rear wheel cylinders and shoes." We have visions of using this truck as a race-day car hauler so those brakes would likely get a workout.
Inside, there are dual benches and technically seating for 6 with lots of cargo room in the back. Other than a slightly upgraded headunit, boxes with 6x9 in the back, and some missing panels in the cargo area things look to be pretty stock 1971.
Outside the paint is shiny and though it's not mentioned, must be a respray. Chrome bumpers look straight and we've always liked the tail / reverse lights on this generation. Some editing on the exterior would clean things up a good bit. We'd lose the front visor, "Keep on Trucking" rear valence, and some of the chrome trim. We'd probably leave the running boards though removing them and the door strips would make things even more streamlined.
Some rust will need to be addressed and the seller specifically calls out "one body mount, ... the driver side inner fender, and on the rear corners of floor panel." Chrome wagon wheels look clean and the Goodyear Wranglers have plenty of life left. The suspension has a bit of rake on it, though no mention is made of specifics.
These sixth generation Suburbans are the last of the the "classic Suburbans" and in our minds are the ones to have. The seventh generation went from a big truck to a BIG TRUCK and lost all charm. This 6th gen is in good driving shape and could be a nice tow vehicle or beach party hauler.
