Though the looks of the P1800 coupes are inarguably great, the ES can be a bit divisive. Shooting brakes aren't for everyone, and we can't imagine this in a 1973 showroom when the Ford dealer up the road was selling Torinos. Moto Roster loves all things wagon so you know where we stand, and this 2-owner, last model year P1800ES could be the one that brings the naysayers to the light.
The condition of the interior seems to back up the 40k miles on the clock, but with only 5 digits available, and some history of these cars putting on 7 digit mileage, some verification may be needed that this hasn’t rolled over. A respray is mentioned, and it's hard to tell if it's just the hood and roof, or all of the paint. The interior looks very much the part of a 70's Swede with a plethora of gauges on dark wood veneer. You're reminded this is a Volvo by the presence of 3 point harnesses, unheard of in 1973.
The 2.0 liter fuel injected 4 cylinder made 125HP new and is mated to a 4 speed with electronic overdrive which the seller claims is in good working order. The engine bay looks neat and tidy with some new hoses and other recent maintenance items present.
1973 was the last year for the P1800ES (which was the only P1800 variant made that year) and this one benefits from all of the previous updates, including the aforementioned Bosch fuel injection and 4 wheel disc brakes.
The P1800ES is the spiritual grandparent to the C30 of the 2000's and we'd love to see this P1800 find its way to sharing a garage with one and teaching it a few things about style.
