We see older 2 door Range Rovers floating around here and there, but this 1990 model is fresh off of qualifying for the 25-year importation rule so it's a bit novel. On paper this truck should be very appealing for the right buyer, but we're still thinking about yesterday's 109.
This 1990 2 Door Range Rover is on eBay in Jacksonville, Florida and looks to be part of a larger shipment of Rovers that the seller brought over a few months ago. It is newly eligible for sale in the US under the 25-year rule, and comes with a Florida title.
Overall, it's a bit scruffy and incongruous with a brand new paint job mixed with an interior that still looks to be full of European dust. We're not sure about the thinking that goes through the effort to import a car across an ocean and then doesn't spend $100 on a quick interior detail. That said, this was a utility vehicle, not a luxury vehicle so maybe we're splitting hairs.
The real draw here is the turbo diesel / 5-speed combination wrapped up in the Range Rover Classic styling. We agree with the seller that, in theory, it will "... do everything a Defender does but in comfort." Some recent work is mentioned including a top end rebuild, and sorting of the suspension and front end. If we had our druthers, we'd prefer the 4 door for day to day use, but the 2 is a nice bit of rarity to set things apart. This Rover is has a starting bid of $12,990 and it looks like it sold for just that in a previous auction where the buyer failed to materialize.
It will be interesting to see if we find more of these Euro 90's classics on our shores, and what their value is, as more of them become 25 year eligible. A quick (perhaps mis-informed) judgement of this one seems to be a seller trying to cash in on some rarity like we saw when E30 wagons first started coming Stateside.
